*Nebraska joined the Big Ten prior to the 2011-12 season. The Cornhuskers' records and results will be included in the Big 12 post.
**Due to NCAA violations that occurred on Jim O'Brien's watch, Ohio State was forced to vacate 82 regular season and tournament wins spanning four seasons from 1999 to 2002. While the vacated games that took place within the last decade were included in the Buckeyes' totals in the above categories, I have taken these violations and vacated wins into account in the process of ranking Ohio State. If the violations had not occurred, it is likely that I would have ranked Ohio State 2nd rather than 3rd. I'm not entirely sure I should have Ohio State ahead of Wisconsin given the impact the vacated wins from the 2001-02 season have on the Buckeyes' totals.
***Concerning Regular Season Conference Titles, you will notice 15 titles have been earned in a 10-year span. That is due to the fact that I have given teams that have shared a title full credit, as opposed to a fractional title.
****The Winning Percentages category includes all games played - in conference, non-conference, and postseason.
*****Upcoming: all-decade teams for each Big Ten program

I feel like Wisconsin should be second in the power rankings, and third at the lowest. If they're third, then it would be behind Ohio State. Illinois = Garbage Trucks
ReplyDeleteTrying to rank Illinois, Ohio State, and Wisconsin has been the most difficult task so far. I don't like having Illinois ahead of Wisconsin, either. But the Illini have the National Championship game appearance and were so good the first five of the past ten years. Wisconsin certainly has been more consistent. I think a case can be made for ranking those schools in any order.
ReplyDeleteI should also point out that I'm not someone who thinks the only measure of success in CBB is a trip to the Final Four. Pitt and Wisconsin have both been extremely successful these past ten years by my standards, and neither has made a Final Four run. I gave Illinois the edge over Wisconsin after comparing the teams yearly results (I'd give Wisconsin a 6-4 edge over the past ten years and possibly a 5-5 split), noting Illinois' dominant years, and taking into account Wisconsin's consistency. On some level, what it came down to for me was that, despite Illinois' struggles these past 5 years, the program still managed to win basically the same percentage of its games over the past decade (I think there was a .006 difference). That being said, Illinois does sort of equal garbage trucks. And I feel like I've betrayed Bo Ryan.
