  1. This is a crazy year for rankings.

I'd agree at this point with Ohio State, Kansas, Duke, Pittsburgh, and Texas being the top five teams in the country. Of that group, I think Pitt has the biggest risk of being exposed during Big East play. Duke's loss to St. John's wasn't as damning as some may think. Duke just couldn't hit an outside shot in an unusually hostile environment at Madison Square Garden. Because of the early deficit Duke over played St. John's guard who were able to blow by them and for the majority of the game made the short jumper at the free throw line to maintain a big enough lead.

San Diego State remains right ouside of that group for me. A banged up Kawhi Leonard mattered in the loss to BYU. After that is a group including BYU, UCONN, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Villanova, and Louisville. I'm not as impressed with Missouri's, Purdue's, Texas A&M's or Wisconsin's wins as others. The wins against Kansas State and Michigan State look much less impressive at this point in the year. From this group, UConn and Notre Dame have the most impressive wins, and neither has a bad loss. UK and BYU are next, UK has a bad loss at Alabama, but quality, although not overwhelmingly impressive wins. Louisville's win over Connecticut shows how far this team has come in a month, and their earlier loss to Drexel is somewhat excused. It seems like it's taken this team a while to find its identity, but like a lot of Rick Pitino teams, on good nights, can beat almost anyone in the country. I've been less than impressed with Villanova. Their best win was against a still struggling Louisville team that had yet to play its best basketball. I still haven't seen Villanova play really well against great competition. Georgetown follows. Bad streak in the middle of the year, but have righted the ship.

It only becomes more difficult to rank the teams after that. Missouri, Purdue, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Carolina, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Florida all fit in, but I don't really know where.
